Air Liquide joins truck makers to scale European hydrogen mobility value chain
Air Liquide, alongside Volvo Group, Daimler Truck, Toyota, Bosch, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility and MB Energy, unveiled plans at IAA Transportation to accelerate hydrogen-powered truck rollout across Europe. Daimler Truck plans a small series of 100 next-generation fuel cell trucks in customer operations from late 2026, and the group targets scalable hydrogen truck deployment by 2030. TEAL Mobility is a 50/50 joint venture between TotalEnergies and Air Liquide, and the partners aim for refueling stations capable of serving up to 100 trucks per day.
Coordinated liquid and gaseous hydrogen supply chain build-out, plus requested German-style incentives and AFIR-aligned funding, could create sustained demand for industrial hydrogen and refueling infrastructure across Europe.

Market context
Hydrogen is used across refining, ammonia and methanol production, metals processing, electronics and food, and it is increasingly being positioned as a fuel for heavy-duty vehicles. Liquid hydrogen suits long-haul trucking because it stores far more energy per unit volume than compressed gas, while gaseous hydrogen remains common for depots and fleets with shorter routes. Demand in this segment depends on vehicle availability, refueling networks and the supply of low-carbon hydrogen, so producers of industrial gases tend to move alongside vehicle makers and energy companies. When supply chains are built out in a coordinated way, production, liquefaction, storage, distribution and station capacity have to expand together, which can reshape logistics costs and favor suppliers that already hold the infrastructure. Public funding and regulatory frameworks often determine how quickly such projects move from pilot scale to repeatable commercial volumes.
