EuroChem rebuts MAIRE on Kingisepp-2 arbitration jurisdiction ruling
EuroChem Group AG says the London-seated ICC arbitral tribunal upheld its position that claims against it fall outside the tribunal's jurisdiction in the first phase of the Kingisepp-2 (K2) arbitration. The company states that no claim against it has succeeded, no relief has been ordered, and it will seek recovery of four years of costs from the claimants, with costs reserved to the next phase. It also disputes MAIRE's characterisation of its ownership, saying Andrei Melnichenko has held no ownership or control since March 2022.
The dispute over the K2 project and Tecnimont payment claims remains open, with costs to be decided in a later phase, which keeps legal and financial exposure in the Kingisepp-2 project unresolved for market participants.

Market context
The Kingisepp-2 project is a large fertilizer development in northwestern Russia, and the products central to it are nitrogen fertilizers such as ammonia and urea, along with phosphate-based products. Ammonia is a basic feedstock for fertilizers, industrial chemicals and some fuel applications, while urea is one of the most widely traded nitrogen fertilizers. Demand for these products is driven mainly by agricultural planting cycles, crop prices and fertilizer affordability, with industrial uses in plastics, explosives and emissions control adding a smaller share. Disputes over large plant construction can affect buyers and investors because delays, cost overruns or legal uncertainty may change when new capacity reaches the market. Such uncertainty can also influence contractor relationships, project financing and the timing of supply additions, which in turn can affect regional balances and pricing. Market participants usually watch these developments for signs of how quickly capacity may be commissioned and how legal outcomes could shape project economics.
