Market context
2-Ethylhexanol and 2-Propylheptanol are oxo alcohols, made by hydroformylating olefins and then hydrogenating the resulting aldehydes. Their main use is as feedstock for plasticisers, which soften PVC in flooring, cable insulation, wall coverings, and medical tubing. Butyraldehydes are intermediates for alcohols, resins, and rubber chemicals, while Emoltene 100 and Pevalen serve as ester-based plasticiser and performance additives. Demand for these products therefore tracks construction, automotive interiors, and wire and cable activity. Producer price increases of this kind are typically passed through to downstream compounders and converters, and they can tighten the spread between feedstock and product margins. Buyers often respond by reviewing forward contracts or shifting volumes to competing oxo producers, which can change regional supply patterns over time.
