Ferrous chloride is an iron(II) salt sold mostly as an aqueous solution for wastewater treatment, where it precipitates sulfide in sewers and anaerobic digesters and binds phosphate. Most supply is recovered from spent hydrochloric acid pickle liquor at steel finishing lines. Availability therefore depends on steel pickling activity and on whether mills regenerate their acid or sell the iron-rich liquor.
