Description
Fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC)Market Outlook, 2026-2035 forecast; 2036-2047 scenarios
Evidence-led market analysis connecting supply, demand, pricing, trade, participants and commercial opportunities.
Market overview
Fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC, CAS 114435-02-8) is the electrolyte additive that makes silicon-containing anodes workable: it forms a robust, LiF-rich solid electrolyte interphase and improves cycle life. It is also used in high-voltage and fast-charge formulations. Demand therefore tracks both total lithium-ion production and the share of silicon in anodes, while supply is concentrated in Chinese and Korean electrolyte-chain producers whose capacity additions have repeatedly crashed prices.
Key figures at a glance
– FEC market estimates diverge by roughly six times: USD 132.6 mn in 2025 growing to USD 359.9 mn by 2035 at 10.5% CAGR (Future Market Insights) vs. USD 0.8 bn in 2025 growing to USD 2.4 bn by 2034 at 12.5% CAGR (Marketintelo)
– Marketintelo puts Asia-Pacific at 52.3% of demand and lithium-ion batteries at 58.2% of applications in 2025
– Future Market Insights sizes the US market at USD 47.7 mn in 2025, reaching USD 112.1 mn by 2035
Recent developments among key stakeholders
– H1 2026: HSC New Energy Materials (VC/FEC) net profit rose 451% to CNY 223 mn; it has 14,000 t/yr electronic-grade and 6,500 t/yr industrial-grade VC/FEC capacity (SMM)
– 2025-2026: VC additive prices rose from about CNY 50,000/t in early 2025 to over CNY 220,000/t from July 2026, signalling an upturn in the film-forming additive cycle (SMM)
– May 2026: Silicon-carbon anode capacity is expanding rapidly in China (e.g. Tianmu Pioneer 50,000 t/yr), with concentrated output expected in 2027 (SMM)
– Aug 2026: The US Department of Defense offered Sila up to USD 1.4 bn in conditional loans to expand silicon-anode production in Moses Lake, Washington (electrive)
What this means for the market
FEC demand rises with silicon content in anodes, and silicon-anode capacity is expanding on both sides of the Pacific. The report links FEC demand to anode build-outs and the additive price cycle.
How published estimates compare
The two most cited public estimates differ by about six times for the same year. Market Krystal reconciles them using electrolyte tonnage by cell chemistry, FEC loading by anode type, and Chinese spot and contract prices, and publishes both a tonnage and a value series so buyers can see where the difference arises.
What this report delivers
Annual volume (tonnes) and value (USD) for 2026-2035, segmented by application: Li-ion electrolyte additive (EV, ESS, consumer), silicon-anode cells, high-voltage cells; grade: battery, industrial/pharma; region: China, South Korea, Japan, Europe, North America. Each segment is backed by a producer capacity table, price benchmarks for 2020-2025 by grade and region, trade-flow analysis and a supplier risk map. Companies assessed include HSC Corporation, Zhangjiagang Hicomer, Tinci Materials, Capchem, Foosung, Shandong Shida Shenghua, Hubei Hongyuan. The 2036-2047 outlook uses three explicit scenarios (base, constrained supply and technology transition) rather than a single extrapolated curve.
Methodology and transparency
Every third-party figure in this report is cited to its source. Market Krystal estimates are labelled as such, with the volume, price and share assumptions behind them shown in the supporting Excel model, so buyers can audit and adjust them. Where public sources conflict, the report shows the range and explains which evidence it relies on.
The purchased delivery includes the PDF report, Excel datasets and customization around the buyer’s priority region, company set, application or commercial question.
