Description
Hydrogen Peroxide (electronic grade)Market Outlook, 2026-2035 forecast; 2036-2047 scenarios
Electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide (CAS 7722-84-1) market: semiconductor demand, Solvay-Shinsol Taiwan expansion, MGC and Evonik capacity, prices, outlook.
Market overview
Electronic-grade H2O2 is ultra-pure hydrogen peroxide, sold to SEMI grades with metal impurities down to parts per trillion. Chip fabs use it with ammonia and sulfuric acid to clean and etch wafers at almost every process step. Supply is driven by new fab construction, because producers build purification plants next to fab clusters and must requalify each site with each customer.
The question this report answers
How fast is electronic-grade H2O2 demand growing near new fab clusters, and will the Solvay-Shinsol expansion in Taiwan and rival builds in the US, China and Korea keep supply ahead of advanced-node demand?
1. Demand: who uses electronic-grade H2O2 and where it is growing
Semiconductor wafer cleaning is the largest use, and Asia Pacific is the largest region at about 73% of value (Straits Research).
Demand by application (share of 2025 consumption)
– Semiconductor wafer cleaning: 72% (Straits Research)
– Semiconductor etching and photoresist stripping: 14% (Market Krystal estimate)
– Flat panel displays (LCD/OLED): 7% (Market Krystal estimate)
– Photovoltaics, PCB and MEMS/LED: 7% (Market Krystal estimate)
The wafer-cleaning and Asia Pacific shares are as published by Straits Research; the remaining split is a Market Krystal estimate, based on the end markets that Solvay and the publishers list.
Demand by region (share of 2025 consumption)
– Asia Pacific (Taiwan, China, Korea, Japan): 73% (Straits Research)
– North America: 15% (Market Krystal estimate from Straits Research country values (US USD 205 mn, Canada USD 22 mn))
– Europe and rest of world: 12% (Market Krystal estimate)
Where demand grows fastest to 2035
– Photoresist stripping: Straits Research projects the fastest application growth at 10.9% a year, as more patterning steps per wafer need more strip-and-clean cycles (Straits Research)
– US fab cluster supply: North America is the fastest-growing region at 8.6% a year (Straits Research), led by new fabs in Arizona, Texas and Oregon
– Solar cell manufacturing: Reportprime names solar the fastest-growing segment at 8.9% a year to 2032 (Reportprime)
2. Supply: who makes electronic-grade H2O2 and how much
Solvay, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical, Evonik, Arkema, Chang Chun, OCI's P&O Chemical and Chinese producers such as Jiangyin Jianghua lead supply. Disclosed electronic-grade capacity runs to the hundreds of kilotonnes. MGC alone has 140 kt/yr of super-pure H2O2 in the US before its 70 kt/yr Texas and Oregon additions (MGC), and Shinsol in Taiwan is going from 35 kt/yr to more than 70 kt/yr (Solvay, via Reuters).
Main producers and capacity
– Solvay (incl. Shinsol Advanced Chemicals JV, 51%) (Belgium / Taiwan / China / US): Shinsol Tainan 35 kt/yr, rising to over 70 kt/yr by end-2026; Zhenjiang capacity doubled in 2025; Casa Grande, Arizona unit (Solvay)
– Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC Pure Chemicals America) (Japan / US): 140 kt/yr SPHP (31%) in the US, plus 35 kt/yr in Oregon and 35 kt/yr in Texas (Mitsubishi Gas Chemical)
– P&O Chemical (OCI and POSCO Future M JV) (South Korea): 50 kt/yr high-purity H2O2 at Gwangyang for chip and display customers (OCI and POSCO Chemical (Asia Economy))
– Evonik Fuhua New Materials (Evonik JV) (China): 20 kt/yr specialty-grade H2O2 at Leshan, with solar and semiconductor uses (Evonik)
Production by region (share of 2025 output, Market Krystal analysis)
– Asia (Taiwan, Korea, China, Japan): 65%
– North America: 22%
– Europe: 13%
Trade and supply-demand balance
Ultra-pure H2O2 is costly and sensitive to ship, so most volume is made in the same region as the fab. Japan and Europe export specialty lots, and new US and Taiwan capacity is replacing imports (Solvay, MGC).
3. Value chain: from feedstock to end market
Industrial-grade H2O2 (anthraquinone process) + Hydrogen from natural gas + Ultra-pure water, high-purity packaging and analytics → electronic-grade H2O2 → Semiconductor wafer cleaning, Semiconductor etching and photoresist stripping, Flat panel displays (LCD/OLED)
Raw materials
– Industrial-grade H2O2 (anthraquinone process): The purification plant runs on commodity H2O2, priced at about USD 395-820/t in Q3 2025, depending on region (ChemAnalyst)
– Hydrogen from natural gas: Hydrogen sets the cash cost of the base H2O2 plant (Evonik)
– Ultra-pure water, high-purity packaging and analytics: These are needed to reach single-digit ppt impurity levels (Solvay)
Production route
Industrial H2O2 from the anthraquinone process is purified by distillation, ion exchange and membrane filtration up to SEMI G1-G5 grades. Evonik and Fuhua run this model at Leshan.
Downstream
Fabs mix it into SC-1/SC-2 and SPM cleans, often through local distributors and bulk chemical delivery systems run by fab service contractors.
Price, cost and margin
Commodity H2O2 traded at about USD 395-820/t in Q3 2025 (ChemAnalyst); purification, packaging and fab qualification lift ultra-pure grades well above that. Base H2O2 costs about USD 395-820/t (ChemAnalyst, Q3 2025). Most of the margin sits in purification, analytics and multi-year qualification with each fab. Solvay says only a select number of companies can meet the specifications.
Where the chain is tightest
Customer qualification of each new site is the main bottleneck, because each fab must approve each plant before volume can switch.
Who sits where in the chain
– Purification and supply: Solvay, Shinsol Advanced Chemicals, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical, P&O Chemical (OCI / POSCO Future M), Chang Chun Group
– Jv partner: Shinkong Synthetic Fibers
– Base h2o2, purification: Evonik, Arkema
– Base h2o2: Fuhua Tongda Chemicals
4. Market size: what demand, supply and price add up to
Market Krystal preliminary estimate (2025)
Two publishers put 2025 at USD 0.84-1.47 bn (Reportprime, Straits Research), and both forecast growth of about 7-7.5% a year. Research Nester publishes USD 5.28 bn on a wider scope that includes bleaching uses. The range sits inside the two semiconductor-scoped estimates and excludes the Research Nester outlier, whose scope includes bleaching. It is checked against SEMI's USD 3.2 bn for all wet process chemicals in cleaning and etch in 2024, of which electronic-grade H2O2 is one of the largest items, and against the published plant capacities of Solvay, MGC and P&O Chemical. On this basis we use USD 0.9-1.3 bn. Confidence grade B: published estimates exist; the volume or price cross-check is partial.
How published estimates compare
Semiconductor-scoped publishers range from USD 0.84 bn (Reportprime) to USD 1.47 bn (Straits Research), and both forecast about 7% growth a year. Research Nester's USD 5.28 bn covers bleaching and other non-electronic uses. Market Krystal sets its range against SEMI's wet chemicals total and against disclosed plant capacity, not against revenue alone.

5. Outlook to 2035 and scenarios to 2047
Regulation and substitution
No direct substitute exists in RCA-type cleans; risk comes from export controls, fab localisation rules and stricter purity specifications at advanced nodes.

What this means for the market
Taiwan's fabs will get far more locally made ultra-pure H2O2 from 2027. This weakens importers' positions and helps Solvay win share in qualification rounds for new advanced-node fabs. In Korea, Samsung and SK hynix buy mainly from local suppliers such as P&O Chemical, so Solvay's best route there is a second-source qualification. US and Chinese buyers will see new capacity from MGC, Solvay and Evonik-Fuhua, which should hold down contract prices for G3-G4 grades.
Strategic scenarios to 2047
– Base: Demand grows about 6-8% a year to 2035 with new fabs in Taiwan, the US, Korea and China. It then slows to the pace of wafer starts to 2047, and regional plants keep supply balanced.
– Constrained supply: A fab-building cycle that outruns qualification of new purification sites tightens G4-G5 grades in Taiwan and Arizona. Contract premiums rise, and incumbents with qualified plants gain share.
– Technology transition: Gate-all-around and 3D stacking add cleaning steps per wafer, while recycling and point-of-use dilution trim fresh volume per step. Value moves to the highest purity grades.
The swing factor for electronic-grade H2O2 is pace of advanced-node fab start-ups in Taiwan and the US. Signposts: Shinsol phase-two approval, TSMC Tainan and Arizona ramp schedules, MGC Texas utilisation, Korean fab capex, China export-control changes, SEMI wet chemicals forecasts.
